“Damn, this water is cold,” Nancy cried out as the water rushed up to her knees while she waded out to the steer. “How can I help?”

“I’ll hold his head out of the water if you’ll grab my rope, and Shadow can help us pull him out.”

Nancy approached Shadow, took the rope, and secured it around the steer’s head.

“Tie it off to my saddle horn and come help him keep his head up out of the water,” Coal instructed.

Nancy worked quickly, and when she returned, the panicked animal was struggling to free himself from the muddy bottom.
